On Sunday 24th March 2013, Dublin Road Movie House will be hosting a double matinee of films by the McGurk’s Bar and Ballymurphy Massacre campaigns.
“The McGurk’s Bar Bombing: Loss of Innocence” was created to coincide with the launch of the highly anticipated book, The McGurk’s Bar Bombing: Collusion, Cover-Up and a Campaign for Truth which has been on Belfast bestsellers’ lists since the first week of its release.
“The Ballymurphy Massacre” was made by award-winning filmmakers and has already won several documentary awards including one from the prestigious Royal Television Society.
Author Ciarán MacAirt, grandson of Kathleen Irvine who was one of the fifteen innocent civilians killed in the McGurk’s Bar bombing, says:
“These films feature the family members themselves telling their touching stories in their own words. They may be harrowing stories but what shines throughout each is the strength and dignity of ordinary people who have had to fight against extraordinary cover-up by the State. Each film is a must-see.”
The film event is free to attend and will begin at 11am on Sunday 24th March 2013, Movie House, Dublin Road. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org or post here on Facebook to confirm availability.
Light refreshments will be provided and you will be able to meet and chat with the families themselves.
Ciarán MacAirt will be signing his book which you can purchase at the venue (with all proceeds going to the McGurk’s Bar commemoration committee).
Local politicians, campaign groups, media and artists will also be in attendance.
We will look forward to meeting you there.
