Thank you from the Time for Truth Committee.
The families who organised the Time for Truth March in Belfast on February 25 would like to thank the thousands of people who marched with us demanding truth and those who sent messages of support, such as highly respected human rights barrister, Mike Mansfield.
We would particularly like to thank victims and survivors of the conflict for attending the event. Their presence, carrying photos of their deceased relatives, was a stark reminder of the loss of life during the conflict. It was also a stark reminder why truth is so important to families and to this society as we transition from conflict to peace. The huge turnout shows popular support for the families in our demand for truth.
Despite the media’s attempts to minimise the size of this turnout, those on the march were buoyed up by the enormous outpouring of support. For too long, each of our families have felt that we are alone and our loss is forgotten.
We marched together as one under the simple and all-encompassing demand for truth-for-all victims and survivors regardless of their background or creed. We found common ground with each other and have received a timely and much-needed boost for our families’ campaigns for truth.
We, the march organisers, are committed to carrying on the “Time for Truth” campaign and will strive to ensure that its appeal is inclusive and open to all relatives bereaved or injured during the conflict.
The Time for Truth is long overdue. We have waited for decades for others to fulfil their legal and moral obligations. We will wait no longer.
